Quad bikes leading cause of deaths on farms

quadFour wheeler (Quad) bikes are currently the leading cause of deaths on Australian farms, with over 220,000 quad bikes in use Australia wide. Farmers, industry, unions, and Safe Work Australia representatives met in July 2013 and formed QuadWatch which aims to raise awareness of quad bike safety, provide stronger support networks for rural quad bike users and provide practical information and assistance to help minimise risk of a quad bike fatality or injury including:

  • selecting a suitable vehicle
  • safety protection devices available
  • training on the safe use of quad bikes
  • personal protective equipment selection, including helmets.
