What is QA?

QA or Quality Assurance commonly refers to the status of an organisation that has developed and implemented a quality management system that meets the requirements of the Australian and international standard AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System – Requirements (the QA standard). This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Management commitment,
  • Quality Policy,
  • Quality objectives,
  • a Quality Manual,
  • Product (and service) realisation,
  • Design & development,
  • Corrective action,
  • Resource management,
  • Document & records control,
  • Procurement (suppliers and subcontractors) management, and
  • Monitoring, analysis and continual improvement.

If an organisation is QA certified then this implies they have undertaken and passed an audit performed by a JAS-ANZ accredited certification body. When a company has passed the QA audit they will be issued with a QA certificate by the certification body, which normally lasts for three years.
